DEACON CONVENER
The Deacon Convener is the third citizen of Glasgow after the Lord Provost and the Lord Dean of Guild. In times gone by the Merchants House and Trades House members were involved in governing Glasgow. The Deacon Convener still has a seat at Council meeting, but not a voice nor a vote.
In the 1880s the Deacon Convener wore the suit which can be seen to the left and carried a Court sword. The image below shows a close up of the attire that he wore. Today the Deacon Convener wears a silk jacket and striped trousers and small Court Buttons.
